Before starting a new online business or information resource, please consider the wisdom of web design outsourcing. It is a business expense that will pay for itself, if handled correctly. It will definitely save a lot of time floundering, when it would be better used developing a great product or service and realizing profits more quickly.
Personal Experience
It is possible to list all of the pros and cons of web design outsourcing. A brief paragraph on each is informative. However, understand why hiring a professional is so important is probably better served by experience. Rest assured this is not a unique situation.
Whether selling a product or service online or providing consumer resource information for a brick and mortar business, a great website is the place to begin. But, it is definitely a lot easier said than done. Unless you have the expertise needed, it will mean many hours of frustration, hassle, and wasted money in the end.
My Story:
A little over 3 years ago, I decided to start my own service-based online business. I needed the extra money for the family, and I was tired of working two jobs outside the home. I never saw the kids. By the time I came through the door, they were ready to go to bed. I was begged to quit my second job.
I have talent. I have something the public needs. If other people can work from home, thanks to the Web, surely I can too. But, I need a website. So, I spent money I did not have to waste on a website provider. Unfortunately, I had absolutely no idea regarding:
- How to Create a Compelling Landing Page
- The Important of SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
- The Resources to Include (like a shopping cart or payment options)
- What Pages are Absolutely Necessary
- Creating Links (How Consumers Locate the Business)
- And so much more
For one thing, I had to build my own site, and I had absolutely no idea about HTML codes, so that my site had links and certain amenities included that would let a potential client know that I had the knowledge and expertise to give him/her EXACTLY what they are looking for in service.
Long story short, I wasted money on one site that expected me to know how to build my own pages. When that did not work, I transferred to another provider that promised all of the helps to walk a novice through the process. Even still, it took many sleepless nights and a lot of frustration. I was still calling for help, buying books to learn computer lingo, so I could add my own stuff on the page. In the end, the site never made any money for my business, the upkeep kept me from providing better service to the few customers I had, and in my efforts to save money, I probably spent more than I would with web design outsourcing.
So, take my advice. Save yourself a lot of time, frustration, and wasted personal expense. The wisdom of web design outsourcing is simple. Your site will be up and running a lot quicker; everything you need will be included, an upkeep contract can be arranged, and you will see the site making money a whole lot faster than if you do it yourself. Web design outsourcing equals success.
