There are many free SEO tools on the Internet, but here’s a list (not listed in any particular order) of the ones I found to be most useful:

SEO For Firefox
The SEO For Firefox tool allows webmasters and Internet marketers to easily conduct competitive search engine (Google & Yahoo) research directly in the search results pages to analyze key statistics and data about a particular domain name or keyword. The tool is a Firefox add-on which can be activated or deactivated from within your Firefox browser.
Google Keyword Tool
The Google AdWords free keyword tool allows webmasters and Internet marketers to generate keyword ideas and check their relevant local or global traffic. It also allows Internet marketers to check which keywords are driving most of the traffic to a competitor’s website.
Google Ad Planner
The Google Ad Planner tool allows webmasters and Internet marketers to identify the websites their target audience are likely to visit based on their search habits, interests and demographics.
Google Search-Based Keyword Tool
The Google Search-Based Keyword Tool generates highly relevant keyword ideas to a particular website, which helps webmasters and Internet marketers optimize their AdWords campaigns by revealing new advertising opportunities or create new, unique and relevant content based on new keywords.
Google Insights for Search
The Google Insights for Search tool allows webmasters and Internet marketers to compare the Google search volume patterns of specific regions, categories, time frames and properties.
Google Trends
Google Trends is a free keyword tool that allows webmasters and Internet marketers to check the latest trends that certain keywords are creating (or have created over time) across different regions, cities and languages. They can also use Trends for Websites to gain better insight with regards to the audiences of specific websites.
Keyword Spy
Keyword Spy allows webmasters and internet marketers to spy on a competitor’s advertising strategy revealing which keywords are generating the most traffic to a competitor’s website. The free version of Keyword Spy only shows 20 results per query, to have access to all data, you would need to upgrade.
Compete Site Profile
Compete Site Profile provides webmasters and internet marketers free information for every site on the Internet including site traffic history and competitive analytics. Compete offers many other useful services for a premium charge. Click here to view the full list of services.
Alexa Toolbar
The Alexa Toolbar allows webmasters and internet marketers to quickly view the Alexa rank of any website which generally gives a very good indication whether a website is regularly publishing unique content and if it’s generating regular traffic. The closer the rank is to number 1 the better a particular site is performing (generally speaking). Google.com for example is currently holding the number 1 position. Rank Checker
Rank Checker is a free add-on for Firefox which allows webmasters and internet marketers to easily and automatically track the ranking of their website(s) in a number of local and international Search engines.
SearchStaus Firefox Add-On
SearchStaus is a free add-on for Firefox which displays the Google PageRank, Alexa rank, Compete ranking and SEOmoz Linkscape mozRank anywhere in your browser, along with fast keyword density analyser, keyword/nofollow highlighting, backward/related links, Alexa info and more.
SEMRush
SEMRush is an advanced keywords and competitors research tool used by webmasters and Internet marketers to:
- Get the list of Google keywords for any site
- Get the list of AdWords keywords for any site
- Get the list of competitors in organic and paid Google search results
- Get the estimated SE and AdWords traffic for any domain
- Get hidden related (and low-cost) keywords to optimize your AdWords campaign
